A Screening in Memory of Chabrol: Les Bonnes Femmes
It has come to our attention that the French department will be screening four films by Claude Chabrol in memory of his prolific life as a filmmaker. Chabrol has passed away just last month, September 12, at the age of eighty.
Timothy E. Wilson will be heading this event in room 1343/1344 Hunter West, with an informal presentation and a discussion to follow after the film. And of course these films will be included with English subtitles.
The first film of this screening event is…
Les Bonnes Femmes – The Good Time Girls (1960)
Thursday, October 21 at 7:30 pm
Chabrol’s third film, The Good Time Girls, tells the story of four single Parisian women; Ginette, Rita, Jacqueline and Jane in their search for fulfillment and love in their lives. This French New Wave film is a bit of melodrama with a touch of absurd comedy as we journey through their domestic and romantic encounters as chic women of the new hip, modern generation. Mindful of course that this is the sixties but maybe some of you can relate.
Chabrol’s other three films that will be screened in the following weeks will be posted accordingly.
Hope to see you all there.
